Taking care of naturally dyed pieces

Longevity

All the items in the shop have been pretreated with professional fabric-treatment techniques to ensure longevity of the color for years to come. Still, natural dyes are ‘living colors’ and will—like everything natural—change in time together with you. When you want to refresh the color, you’re welcome to use our Upcycle Dyeing service.

Wash

For a long-lasting color, just put some extra care and love into taking care of your item.

Hand- or machine-wash cold.

Use a pH neutral detergent (like Ecover, Ecolab Neutral) as pH-changes can alter some colors.

Avoid soaps that contain lemon scents or oils as acids cause discoloring.

Wash separately the first time. Wash like-colors together.

Dry in the shade to avoid unnecessary sun exposure.

Avoid drying directly on a radiator as metal can react with the dye.

Avoid dry-cleaning due to the use of heavy chemicals.

Stains

Most natural dyes are susceptible to acids and alkali. Therefore, be careful with acidic liquids (like lemon, wine, mojito …) or alkaline ones (like baking soda) as these can discolor your piece. If you do splash or stain your garment, avoid putting soap directly onto the stain and rubbing harshly as that would leave a permanent patch in the stained area. First wash it out with a generous amount of water, then gently rub to loosen the stain. Soak your garment in a bucket filled with water and some pH neutral detergent for a few hours. If the stain is too strong, you can use our Brinas Upcycling service.
